Saved The Boss For Last!

If you read Cycle Source then you've seen this bike. Chris the editor of CS has been riding his old bagger for a long time while in his head he was thinking up his dream bike just like the rest of us. It seems the stars and planets finally aligned because Chris was able to bring his dream to life. With the help of some good friends and Brothers he was able to gather parts and people at the Cycle Source Garage and bring this dream to life. Of course a side trip was in order to get the guidance of a legendary bike guru in the form of Roadside Marty's Dad for the engine build. Once the heart of the beast was in order everyone reconvened at the CS garage and wrenches started spinning. If you want the details you can check out the last few issues of the mag. It's all there so I won't bother to rehash it here. It's enough to say that this bike is even more beautiful in person and it seems that Chris is determined to ride the hell out of it. These pics were taken Sunday morning as I was waiting for the dew to dry on my tent so I could start to pack up. It was really the first time I saw the bike sitting still long enough to take pictures. Check em out and remember that we'll be doing all of this again next year so you need to make plans to be there yourself.

Last Saturday's Lunch Ride.

Last Saturday we went to Shono's for lunch. It's a pretty cool little Japanese place near my Gym. It's also a little farther away so we had a better ride and I got more pictures. I know y'all get tired of me posting the pics from the lunch ride, but taking riding pics is one of my favorite things to do. When you get truly tired of them, let me know in the comments. I may give it a break or I may tell you to piss off. Depends on my mood I guess.

David rode the Panhead and since the kickstand spring is stretched and doesn't really work he has to use a loop made from zip ties to hold it up. Of course this takes time and everyone ended up leaving us behind so we rode out by ourselves. That's OK, I got to listen to this fine beast run.

We found out that the rest of the crew stopped so Jesse could get some gas. His Sporty is apart for some much needed chopping so he borrowed Davids CB750 for this ride. Here he is pulling into the parking spot for lunch.

After lunch, I got ahead of everyone in the parking lot and got this pic as they passed by me. Stewie's new tank really grabs your eye!

We stopped for a slushy, we they did I just watched. he Panhead had a few issues, but all in all it was a good ride.

Another Great Saturday

Another great weekend in the books. Saturday morning I had to knock out my "honey do" list consisting mainly of yard work, then I was able to get away and head over to GarCo. I got there just in time for lunch and after a little arm twisting I convinced them to go to Nino's so I could get a meat lover's calzone YUM YUM! The ride was short but still fun. After that we all hung out working on projects until it was time to take off for a party at Alabama Joe's house. He's got a really cool little house on a wooded lot in an area of town you would never expect to see his spread. I really dig it and should have taken pics before it got dark, but I was busy talking. I tried to take pics of the party, but the tiki torches were messing up my camera so I gave up and just enjoyed myself. It was pretty tame for a party with that many Haints, but then again I did leave pretty early.  Enjoy the pics from the lunch ride, I'm trying to update as much as I can, but things have kind of slowed down a little. It'll pic back up soon and until then just enjoy what you get and give me time and I'll post more.

Spenser changed his bike AGAIN! This time he got a beautiful old AMF Sporty tank off ebay for a good price. It's amazing how much of a difference just changing the paint color of a tank can make.

More BMR Pics

The new Cycle Source just came out recently and that got me to thinking about BMR again. I was actually quite happy to see that my bike made it into the main image used for the BMR article. Mine is the black/blue Bad Boy with the Evel Knievel helmet on the handlebars. Not a great beauty shot, but hey you take what you can get. Also in this months issue is a feature about Adam Doyle's bike and I realized I had a good pic of it so I thought I'd share that as well. The rest of the pics are just ones that I like.

Kick ass Panhead. I LOVE that old stock paint on that ironhead Sporty gas tank. There's not even much of anything I would change on this bike and I ALWAYS want to change something on every bike I see. Even my own......ESPECIALLY my own.

This bike tripped me out when I saw him out on the road before he made it to the campground. This bike is SO low and the ammo cans are SO wide he could barely turn it. Definitely NOT a great bike for winding mountain roads. I bet it was a scary ride through the hills that weekend.

You can get a better idea just how low and wide it all was. Nice bike, and I'm all about using Army surplus stuff, but this one made me scratch my head. The main thing is that HE likes it so my opinion doesn't really matter.

Lunch Ride Last Saturday

We had a nice ride to lunch last Sat. Spenser broke his key switch on his shovel so he decided to ride the "Artistry in Iron" bike (Negra Pantaloons) to lunch. This little Panheaded beasty is a monster! This bike has PLENTY of power and Stewy wasn't even raising hell with it. It's just gonna get better as it gets broke in too. Anyway, enjoy the pics I for sure enjoyed taking them.

1965 Panhead From The BMR....

My all time favorite old HD and my one day dream bike is a 1965 Electra Glide Panhead. I want one for many reasons, one is because that was the year I was born, it was also the last year for the Pan and the first year for the electric kicker. The lines on this bike are classic and to me epitomize the most time honored HD styling.

I was wandering around the campsite at the BMR and what do I stumble upon? The beauty you see in front of you. As soon as I saw it I knew what it was and HAD to get pics. The owner was nearby and we talked for a few minutes. Unfortunately I have the worst memory for names that I have ever seen. No matter though, he was a great guy and he was riding a gorgeous bike. Just look at the timeless forks and front wheel.

You can see the Electra Glide script on the front fender and the starter solenoid on the primary. The cross over pipe does a good job of hiding that ugly lump though.

Gotta love fishtail mufflers.

Even the lighting is from the right time period. The tour pak came from one of them damn new fangled shovelheads.

Saturday's Ride.

Another Saturday lunch. I was on my way to the shop when I passed everyone going the other way so I whipped a u-turn and followed them. Turns out it was Larry's Birthday  and Ashley had a cake and we got to wear party hats  ;-)

A Future Project For Someone

Nick was surfing Craigslist and discovered this beautiful piece of chopper history. Apparently it sat in a garage unmolested for 10-20 years. The engine appears to have not been run since it was rebuilt. If you are interested in it give Larry a call at the shop, ya might get lucky.

By the way, I want to clear up some info. I am NOT affiliated with GarCo in any way other than them being DAMN Good Friends. Larry lets me hang around and bum shop space as well as take pictures of whatever catches my eye. If you haven't hung out with the GarCo crew and the Haints then you are missing out. As we used to say in the Army, they're "good people". Come by and visit, support the shop and bring your bike in for custom work or even a simple service. It's all good.

It appears that this tire was on a bike that had a bolt close to the tire and a large person must have sat on the back and made it rub.
