A Nice Sunday Ride With Some Custom Cousins

It seems that everyone has been tied up with stuff lately so it was a great thing for us to be able to get away and ride for a little while this Sunday. Bill and Whitey couldn't make it, but ya gotta take care of the family first. Ian, Ross and I met at Ross' house and after catching up for a few minutes took off for some fun.
Ross showing off his new "cruise control" he picked up for his bike. He and Ian are gathering all the goodies and making all the mods they need to hit the El Diablo run with Bill in May.

Ian checking out one of the 10 million cool pieces Ross has made for this bike.

Ross' frame table is almost done and ready for Ross to begin building his CB750.

Ian's shovel sitting at the curb waiting for the latest shakedown run. Ian is trying to get as many miles as he can on the bike to work out all the bugs before he gets to Mexico.

And away we go!

Somehow caught up with Ross. Actually he held it down to a nice pace today.

Following my Brothers down some fun country roads.

Starting to find a few curves.

And some more of them.

We stopped to take a break and to check for loose parts. We did pretty good, one exhaust nut had fallen off Ian's shovel. Not bad for a bike that was in a million pieces not that long ago. I must say that it was nice to ride behind an old FLH with the full fender and bags without seeing the rear fender and other parts shaking all over and in different directions. This bike is proving to be a good solid build.

The place Ross led us to was a cannonball factory during the Civil War and today is a nice park with some of the parts of the factory grounds recreated. Across the street is the remains of a mustard gas factory from WWI. I plan to get back out here with my Wife and our cameras so you'll see more pics later.

About ready to ride again.

The ride back.

We went through Columbiana on the way back. It's a nice small Southern town with lots of old south charm. After this we got back to Ross' where we hung out for a few then headed on home to get ready for the new week.

I really like how the parked pic of Ian's bike came out so I played with it a little and thought I'd share.

That's all for now. Catch ya later!

Last Sunday's Ride

So with Larry and Ashley out in California for Born Free and the fact that it's over 100* around here lately not much happened on Saturday. Sunday however a few of us got together to take a little ride and have some fun. Ian, Whitey and I decided to meet at the old Garage Co location and work from there. We ended up heading out Shelby County 11 towards Chelsea and looping back around past the new Garco location. Ian split off about halfway through to do the family thing, but it was still great to get out and do a little riding with good folks.

The meet up at the old Garco.

Ian waiting for the damn light to turn green. He has this bike looking RIGHT. Now he can concentrate on the shovel he's building.

Whitey on the most kick ass modern Triumph I've seen waiting for the damn light as well. I'm going to do a real photo shoot of this bike one day soon.

Ridin' the back roads.

Saw this in someone's yard. I LOVE riding out in the country.

More tree lined roads.

We pulled over to discuss directions and I snapped this one of Whitey's bike.

Ian talking to Whitey about what way to go. I don't know the roads in this area so I was just following where they led.

I thought y'all might like to see my master cylinder.

Another reason I like to ride in the country. Folks are still patriotic out here. This wasn't just a July 4th deal this was a permanent display.

The driveway next to the display.

From across the street.

This was just down the road and really caught my eye. I love this stuff!

Just Whitey and I at this point.

We stopped at a cool little cemetery to take a drink and ended up walking around a bit. Really cool place that I may use for pics some other time.

So that's it for this time. I'll have more pics later. Gotta do the family thing this weekend so it may be a little slow with the posts for a bit.

Sunday's Attempted Breakfast Ride

Whitey  invited me to go on a breakfast ride with Him, Brandon and J.T. Sunday. Of course I said yes, once he told me it was a breakfast buffet with good bacon. SO Sunday morning I get up early and make it over to Pelham by 8 to meet Whitey. While we were waiting for the others a cool older guy stopped and we swapped stories about our old bikes for a little while. Finally we get a call from Brandon, it seems his bike was broke on the side of I-65 and he wanted us to bring him some oil so he could hopefully get going again. Whitey needed gas anyway so this was fine.....

Whitey arrives

Ready to go rescue Brandon

We saddled up and took off. After getting gas and buying some oil we got on the Interstate and proceeded to find Brandon and J.T.. Wasn't hard to find them of course, just look for the damn dirty Bikers on the side of the road...

Trying to make it go again

J.T. giving Moral support before realizing we had no morals to support.

After adding the oil and test running everything we decided to give it a try. The bike seemed to be running OK until we took off. We made it about 100 yards before Brandon's bike spewed a lot of smoke and pretty much died. Luckily we made it to the off ramp and up to the intersection before it stopped. We all got off our bikes and performed triage again, the consensus was that the patient needed a trauma unit. SO J.T. took off to get his truck. (Luckily he road his Sportster instead of the Shovel)....

J.T. off to get the ambulance

The sick patient and the Pelham Cop who stopped to see if he could help. Seemed like a nice guy, but we were beyond his help so he took off.

Some of the dead dinosaur juice that sprayed out of the engine on our short ride.

Finally J.T. gets back and we load the bike and head off to at least get SOME kind of breakfast. We went for a small Mom & Pop joint, but they were closed so we ended up at Waffle House.

Whitey taking off his gear.

The food was good and the conversation was great. We ended up having a pretty good time just sitting around on the side of the road and then again during breakfast. I think we managed to figure out how to solve all the world's problems...or at least why we hate hipsters. All  good things must end so I said good bye to everyone and headed on home to spend the rest of the day with the family. I hope your weekend was as good as mine. Next time maybe we'll even get to use more than a quart of gas on the ride.
