Sunday night August 12, 2012 a wonderful event happened. Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters played at the Alabama Theater in Birmingham, AL. Birmingham and Clarksdale, MS are the only two American dates on this tour. Because of this we had a Sold Out show and I promise that no one left disappointed. For people like me who grew up listening to Led Zeppelin and then on to all the other projects Plant has been involved with, it is always great to see him play live. The show is always different every time I go. Last time was on the Plant/Krause tour and it was incredible as well, but in a different way. That show was at the BJCC and was a big event, this show was in a 2100 seat arena and the feel was much more intimate and warm. The songs were mostly delta blues based and even the Zeppelin songs were given a more country/bluesy feel. Some of the Led Zep classics covered were Black Dog, Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp, Whole Lot of Love and Gallows Pole. Of course since Mr. Plant is not the typical ego driven musician Patti Griffin did some singing and West African acoustic virtuoso Juldeh Camara was highlighted on some very unusual instruments. Also the other band members were allowed in the spotlight and were very active onstage making for a great show. This show was so special that people traveled from all over the country to attend. This was evident from talking to some of the people who sat near Allison and I. There were a couple of women who came all the way from California just because it was on the bucket list of one of them to see Robert Plant live. In front of them was a lady who traveled from Maryland. From what I saw and heard they were not disappointed in either the show or the venue. Check out the pics and if you ever have a chance to see this man, take advantage of it. You will not regret it.
The Alabama Theater before the doors opened.
I told you it was Sold Out!
Allison and I wandered around the area for a bit before we went inside. This is one of the pics I took, I'm starting to like playing with reflections.
The Legend Robert Plant!
Most of the band, hard to believe that he's in his 60's now.
This guy was all over the place. For sure a high energy performer.
The whole stage.
The other guitar player in action.
Patty Griffin doing her thing.
Juldeh Camara onstage and playing what looked like a lute.
Robert and Patty singing together.
The two women on the left were from California and the lady on the right was from Maryland. Of course I wish I had gotten their names, but we all know how bad I am at that. It was great to meet them and share my opera glasses. I hope their visits were great ones and that they'll take home many great memories.
If you weren't there you missed an event that will never happen again. I'm so glad that I was able to make it, and I look forward to the next great show.

How cool!!! I wish I could have gone. I didn't know anything about it until the night before. Hook a girl up next time something exciting is coming our way.
